Just bought a 2000 Classic XL and there is a steel panel on the engine side of the firewall. It's pretty rusty, anyone ever dealt with this problem.

Welcome to Freightshakers. Good luck with the torx fasteners holding it in place too. The 3 most common wrench sizes on my Columbia are die grinder, cutting torch & hacksaw.

As far as rusted up stuck fasteners,if you have some time spray them with penetrating oil and tap them with a hammer and punch. I've got some bolts giving me trouble and used this method to loosen them up. you can't rush it though it takes a week or more for this to work. As i'm sure you know never sieze or white lithium grease when it goes back together.

    spray wont working
chisel + hammer works! ore screw bolt heads out and drill them out

They use steel w/o paint becouse pait wont holding heat

So replace fasteners with stainless steel fasteners and clip nuts)
