Incorrect wheel bearing torque? Unitized hubs?
Same dealer fixing it every time?

Edit: I just realized you said drive axle..... Scratch the unitized hub comment.

Mine did the rear left drive at only 12k. That was 2 weeks ago. Keeping a close watch on them all and even more so after reading this post.

I would certainly check to see who you talk to about this being an issue? after the first time they should have had it fixed! But since they didn't would be finding out what the warranty department is going to do ffor this on going issue.

Which axles does it have? Meritor on the ones we run and no troubles like those you mentioned.

Do you all have Cascadias or Coronados? Premature seal failure is due to shaft wobble whether it be worn bearings or a bent shaft.

If all these trucks are newer ones than the dealer should be doing the work so they can record the repeated failures in their database.

The first thing I would do is jack the rear end up in the air and see if the tires are turning true. If it wasn't then I would pull the axle and see if it's true. If it was I would focus on the bearings. If the shop is just replacing the seal they are just fixing the failure and not finding the problem. I would make it known to the shop that this is a repeated failure and not just a leak. Otherwise they won't dig further.

It could be a part design issue and a weaker metal used in a particular brand axle. It could be because it's now a Daimler product! :)

I'm unclear about what seal is leaking. Is it the wheel seal (oil contaminating your brake drum and shoes and showing up on inside of inside tire) or is it the drive flange seal (oil leaking onto the outside of your outside drive wheel and outside of that tire)?
