In the market for some wheels, and the last post I found was in 2010, about the wheels holding their shine. Is anyone still using these, and if so, how has the metal held up? Anyone report any issues as far as cracks?

Loocked into the Alcoa's, but it seems they're also being manufactured in other countries to save a buck.

Using them on a local tanker, the most weight will be around 60K total. I also hear, that is steel is the only way to go?

Accuride Rims come standard on Freightliner Trucks as a OEM Wheel, they are just as good as Alcoa, many OEM Truck and Trailer Manufacturers are outfitted with their Aluminum and Steel Wheels from the Factory.

You shouldn't have any problems if you decide to choose this Brand.

I have the stud piloted ones. Only problem which is strictly stud pilot related is four inside rims I bought used have been torn up at the nut mating surface by brutal wheel technicians. Last time I removed them I had a few inner nuts cracked which I believe to be from uneven mounting face. Welding nuts off is a PITA.
Only solution to that would be to polish the inside of the inners and swap inner wheels with outer ones to get brand new nut mating surface.:biggrin_25526:

They are all old no cracks, polish up real nice. Alcoa is second rate to Accuride.

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me someone once told me that when the barrel nuts are doing what you describe. The possible cause could be heavy hauling, maybe.:smt064 I have not had too much experience with the accurides, but from the ones I have seen I prefer the alcoas. Back in the old days the accuride daytons were the bomb. Had them all the way around on my City Weld 3-9's. R8 relay valves with 1/2" supply lines and 2 100# propane tanks suppling the wind. Oh yeah!

I went to the local peterbilt shop and just seen their new trucks, and I just liked the way the blue pete on black wheels and a chrome center cap made it stand out...

Now I'm leaning towards powder coating or black chrome, it might even be cheaper. Anyone know of a local chrome shop to obtain pricing?

Found the picture of the actual one for sale, thought Id share, conflicted about aluminum wheels or black.

Depends how long you wanna keep the truck. Any coating will deteriorate over time, especially a porous metal like aluminum. Bare aluminum will look sweet 10 years later after a polish.

I have sold both Accuride and Aloca Wheels for over a decade. There was a time where Alcoa had a superior product. Now, I wouldn't pay the extra money for the blue sticker. They both have the same load rating and the same warranty. But if you are considering a clear coated wheel, I still lean toward the Alcoa Dura Bright's over the Accuride's comparable Accu-Shield. I dont think Accuride has gotten the technology down yet. Hope that helps.

i have accurride rims 22.5 i bought them brand new, i never used brightener nor acid on them just regular down soap for washing dishes, and i have to keep hand polishing them every two weeks cuz the rims start getting lil spots & my dad has alcoas and his polish shine lasts months. he washes them the same way i do .. As wat i seen Alcoas polish shine lasts longer than accuride
