lol. minus the semis. This is a truck blog. why not say "minus trucks", lol. I vote for the 59 yo dude. At least he support his claims with research and documentation. Half of you educated mechanics are worth crap nowdays. You just replace everything you see till you happen to replace the broken part. must be nice to be paid by hour. Im a 26yo, carrier, OP.

Ok so it turns out that the batteries that came along with the truck when we purchased it were too small. Fleets tend to do this to save alittle money. But this caused the starter to go bad. So after 4 days in the shop, plenty of arguing and stress, we had to replace the batteries with new correct sized ones in order to get a new starter in which was then covered under a 60 day buyers warranty. The old batteries were good so we are taking them back home and will sell them. The new starter will only be covered under the remaining 60 days on the buyers warranty. It's a rip off but that's how Freightliner does it. The new batteries have a warranty on them as well, because we had to pay for them ourselves. Plus the 4 days in a motel so we are out a lot of $$$. I can't help but feel like a victim here. Just wanted to let everyone know how it turned out. Hopefully we will get a load today and get rolling. Thanks for your comments.

    Success via this thread !
    Brain991219- thanks buddy .

I was away 200kms when battery warning light came up on dash with ‘BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW’ warning message (during night ).
Luckley it was still charging 12.8 ( lights on , fan/blower off).
Took the truck home so I can start diagnostics early morning. As this thread , I bought the multimeter first ($40)and checked voltage direct from alternater . Reading was 12.8. . Bought alternator for $350+tax . Paid $200 to get it changed on driveway ( new bee here fellas , didn’t want to make mess .
    But I’ll get better. I promise ) .

Usually it’s the alternator if you’re cruising down the road and get low voltage warning. Alternators can run the car/truck entirely and have some to spare to trickle charge the batteries.

If your alternator wasn’t too old I’d check to why it died so early. I know with cars running batteries too low too often wears the alternator more pretty sure truck alternators are built tougher to counter this issue. Loose or old rotting belts also make the alternator work harder.
