It is time to overhaul my series 60 and wondered about using Interstate McBee parts versus Detroit Diesel parts. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From my previous experiences I would go genuine Detroit with all internal parts including gaskets. There's not that much difference in price.

Go with genuine Detroit. If you ever tear it down over Quality problems anything you saved is lost. The chances of having trouble with genuine Detroit parts is far less.

have not used mcbee, but guy with shop that does only engines for past 40+years has had bad luck with them.claims rings are too hard and won't break in properly.even if he is wrong,40+ years is enough to convince me to use something else.good luck.

I like the crate engine approach. Just swap out one Series 60 for a factory rebuilt 60 with full warranty.

i used McBee for my inframe last year, and will be getting injectors from them since they rebuild for Detroit. No problems at all and every thing spec"d as it should.

I think 40% is a lot of difference. I saved approx. $4k using them
I rebuilt my detroit 3 years ago and went with the McBee. Total parts was less than $5000 which included top side, just not injectors. I didn't have Mcbee injectors available for mine at the time as mine was the 14L. But did use injector cups, liners, pistons, rods, oil pump, ect.
I plan on doing this Cat next month and going to use the McBee parts for it as well. Also I beleive they have chrome rings available also.

joey8686 and Kw Owners Club Thank this.
