I had a recent conversation with a Volvo salesman, he said where Volvo has made the whole power train, D13, ISX etc this type of warranty problem would never happen.. said "its a big reason to buy his truck" .....

    Is this true???

Interesting that the dealership can't get the starter to roll right away, what would they do if it was a difficult problem????

Must have skimmed through the part where it doesnt crank. Sounds like a freightliner problem, and not cummins.

If it is a cummins issue then towing should be covered under warranty, if it is on the OEM side(freightliner) then cummins is not responsible.

Call cummins, ask them first if they can contact a regional person from their company, then ask that person about the situation and you want them to work with the dealer when they figure out what's going on. AND ask them what do you have to do to get a reimbursement for the towing costs which should have been covered by the guarantee.

Inexplicably enough, they walked away from it for coffee break, then came back and tried it "one more time" and it cranked no problem. They have no idea why the starter interrupt failed to reset for 3 days. As far as the original problem, my company's shop did the full service on in at the beginning of December and installed fuel filters that physically fit, but were basically starving the engine for fuel. Stack that on top of the cold temperatures, and as the tech put it "the fuel wasn't gelled, but it gets kinda thick when it's that cold", and the pumps couldn't pull fuel fast enough to keep it running. You'd better believe I'm going after my company shop for the tow and fix.

Could it be a flakey ignition switch on dash. Or a common starter solenoid behind the firewall on these freightshakers.

Kinda weird that it just "magically" started one day.
