I have a 1999 FLD120, the flasher relay (5 pin, Potter&Brumfield VF4-15F11 12V 40/30A) will flash for about 5 seconds and then click with a screeching sound. There aren't any shorts in the electrical system of the lights, Ive even unhooked all 4 turn signals and took out the Trailer pigtail. Still same results. I'm wondering if anyone here has had this problem with the signal relay flasher. I've ordered a 80 amp Flasher relay to see if that helps.

Do you have LED's as turn signals or brake lights?
If so, going to a higher amp capacity flasher would be moving in the wrong direction, as they use much fewer amps.
You may need a LED compatible flasher if you're running LEDs. If not, then all of this wouldn't apply.

Yes, just the 2 round rear tractor tail and brake lights. the rest are standard, including the trailer.

FLD's don't really have a flasher. The flasher is built into the warning light bar, it is not affected by current, LED's do not matter. The light bar controls a flasher relay (the 5 prong part you're referring to). The is a standard SPDT relay. When a relay makes a buzzing noise like that, it's usually due to low voltage. On FLD's, it is often dirty or spread connections where the relay plugs in. Terminals 30 and 85 should have battery voltage. Terminal 86 is the flasher signal from the light bar, which will be ground when the lights are on.

If the relay is good and has good power and you find that the flasher from the light bar is malfunctioning (no pulsing ground), just rewire it for a normal flasher that replaces the relay using the instructions attached. Too expensive to replace the bar just for flashers.

Grapeape, Thank you Very much, that was the most helpful post ive had on this site. I may try it. I just went outside and was going to try it. I sat alittle pissed off because of the space that the Bar is in. while getting into position my drop light unplugged and it was dark.....the signal light was left flashing and it started to cut out, i just so happen to look ahead of me and i saw the fire jumping between the contact nut and the board I took my vise grips and put it across the leads and the light flashed for 5 mins without cutting out. Reminds me of the Bars that were in the Harley Davidson, im just going to jump a wire across. Thank you very much for the VERY helpful information
