can anyone tell me the pros and cons in comparison with regular 10 or 13 gear trany? I've never driven this type of transmission and I was wandering if this "super 10" is different or if there is anything special....why is this trany called "super 10"

Super 10 is the best of the 10 spds in my opinion. Shifting it is like driving the high range of a 13 and splitting every gear. There is no fingertip range selector, that function is done on the trans when you move the shifter from 5/6 to 7/8 hole. Each hole is 2 gears and selecting is done with a thumb switch like a 13 or 18. Upshift in each hole is lift throttle and it drops in the next gear. Downshift is lift throttle then roll back in to raise rpm. Exactly the same as splitting a 13/18.

Pros... once you get used to driving one you can slip through the gears faster and smoother than any other manual gearbox.

Cons... its not a 13/18 so you still cant drop half a gear when that would be an advantage. Only other thing I can think of is having to listen to joe supertrucker tell you how bad a super 10 is because he couldnt get the hang of it.

Possible con.... theres a variant called the Super 10 Top 2. The Top 2 gives control of the 9/10 shift to the engine ecm. It SUCKS. Luckily that function can be disabled in the ecm.

Super 10s are awesome! My favorite by far! Their really nice in traffic because your only physically shifting the truck 5 times instead of 10. Only negative thing is that their lazy. If you get on throttle to early gears won't catch. Other than that there is not many negatives to them

I liked them, for all the above reasons.

    Agreed on the top 2 super 10 . . .

I've driven one too and Loved it and it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. The shift points are pretty much the same as a regular 10spd and downshifting is way easier. I've no idea why these things disappeared

Anyone have any ideas why my super 10 eaton is winding real bad mostly while loaded, checked all the mounts and trans fluid is full, does it off and on in all positions, only when it warms up to operating temp, sounds like its going to come apart when it does it

I'm taking a guess, but sounds like the bearing are going out. If you want a temporary patch, throw some Lucas addictive.

Have your back end sychro checked out in the transmission. At about 1 Million or so miles they start to wear out in the Super 10 regardless of what you do to keep them going. Rebuild the transmission and your good for another 1 million.
