That's a rather odd thing to say. I'd rather have the extra fuel money in my pocket than someone else's, but to each his own. Not everyone has the skill to manually shift for maximum fuel economy, and I'm not about to pay for them to learn.
In our case, the engine, tires, trailer, and every other conceivable item are already contributing what they can to increased fuel mileage. The auto transmission is just another step in the evolution of the fuel efficient, cost effective power unit.

Still don't feel like losing skills of manual transmission. I prefer old school style with power train. I grew up riding with my dad on manual and 3406B, 12.7L detroit, 14.0l detroit, and c-15 mbn.

Time never changes for me. Legit truckers must drive manual. I like having the feeling of the clutch.

"Legit truckers must drive a manual" ??? That's not true and you know it. You're just fishing for an argument now.

You're one guy that drives one truck, your truck. It's your business, your way of life, your way of providing for yourself and your family. I get that. You prefer to drive a manual and that's totally your choice, but that certainly doesn't mean that other drivers who prefer to do it differently are wrong, or less of a truck driver, or less of a person, because of their choice.

Like you, I personally prefer to drive a stick myself. However, from a fleet standpoint, that's just not practical any more. I wish we could back to my driving days 30 years ago. It was much simpler to be a driver then, and frankly, the stick ties me to those days. The problem is that I can't hire you anymore. You simply don't exist. Old school drivers are getting fewer and fewer and fewer every day, and before long, there won't be any left. Although it's a fact of life, it's still sad.

I envy your position of being able to spend a little extra for your own wants and comforts. I don't have that luxury. I answer to bankers, stock holders, new drivers, and ever increasingly demanding customers. They don't allow me those freedoms.

I wish you luck and good fortune my friend, I really do.

I get the point. But still driving automatic transmission in trucks isn't my life style. One day old school guys will rise again. Like the Pepsi releases the Throwback and the old school truckers also will. Like the 579, i would pronounce as the future classic.

What are you hauling for that you can afford a new truck?

After almost two months of driving my 2014 Evolution with the DT12 auto, I'll go against any manual shift driver for fuel economy. I've driven stick for 26 years and unless you're a guy who throws your truck into Mexican overdrive on EVERY single downhill grade, you'll never beat the E-Coast on these things. On every rolling downhill grade on cruise control it automatically shifts into neutral until either power is required again or if it begins to overspeed the set cruise limit (or if the overspeed is approaching the threshold of returning into gear at max rpm). I've never driven the other auto shifts by other manufacturers, but they seem to have figured out the problems the others had.

OK I will bite. Ive been doing 7.5 lately pulling a fully loaded step deck. I plan on doing 8 after a few more things.

Oh and I go up hills like Monteagle at full speed fully loaded. I don't even put down full power through wisconsin.
