Ok. I have a problem on a 2006 freightliner columbia where the dash lights wont go out. Ive pulled the relay for the instrument panel and they still stay on. Also tried new light switch. No difference. The only thing that will turn them off is by pulling fuse# 25 for the instrument cluster. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

That's what mine is doing too. 2001 Century. And haven't gone any farther than what you did. It's got to be a short in the instrument cluster.

Mine been doing this for 6 months now.

Yea. Pulling the instrument cluster is the next step I guess.

Yea, i hear ya. Maybe get lucky and something will catch our eye. Weird that something could short there though since its not being touched or moved.

Be very careful and very cautious. You have an electrical problem some where, I'd be using the battery disconnect switch when the truck is unattended. Have a smoke detector ready in the truck, I don't sleep with out mine. Finally, if you smell smoke or something burning, pull over and kill the battery disconnect. I've seen quite a few trucks go up with electrical problems, it's good to have a battery disconnect. If something happens, you can try to kill the power and maybe if you're lucky, put out the blaze. Once a fire starts, its almost impossible to put it out. Be safe.

I had the inst cluster out and there is nothing really to see but the more i think about it.....its gotta be a hot wire shorting with one of the wires running out of the connector plug for the headligt switch running to the clustet since even disconnecting the headlight switch all together continues to allow the dash lights to work. With the way the wires are all clumped and coiled together throughout the whole truck, God only knows where it could be.

Frieghtlinerman, this battery disconnect thing is sounding like a good thing for this old truck. Can you tell me what one you have and where did you get it. Thanks

ok so I had the exact same problem when I would get mine washed, no joke not when raining but after a wash my dash lights would not go off and half of my trailer lights would stay on. After months of nothing, I had it washed again hoping it would just catch fire and sure enough the relay in the driver door was getting wet and was completely corroded and shorting out. The cozy window in the door had been leaking along with the seal at the bottom of the window. Replaced the seal and power window buttons and knock on wood so far everything works great. I think the pressure washer just forced the water in the door the right way causing that, and since there is a light in the power window control when it shorted out it back fed into the lighting system.

Yea some trailers I would hook to would make half the trailer lights stay on too. I replaced everything in driver side door except passenger switch. It now doesn't work all the time. So I'll replace that next.

My little vent mirrors where leaking too. Thanks for the reply.
