I am breaking my cardinal rule of do not buy 08 or 09 trucks. I have 2 cascadia to choose from, both are 515 horse but one is a 14l 60 series and the other one is the 15l dd15 engine.

As far as the other specs they are similar. I am looking to see what your experiences or thought are on these 2. I realize new technology blows goats and you may have spent the 1st year in the shop..... but was the problem finally corrected and won't be a issue for me?

Thanks alot for all your input.

It is hit and miss. The DD15's from those years, I've read about reliability issues. It was a new engine. The trusty and true Series 60, its a good engine, but its hit and miss. Will you get one with a good engine? You will need to have the factory settings turned up, as most fleets have them low. Other wise, it will be gutless.

I don't have any experience with the DD15, but I would look at the Series 60 if I was you.

It's a combination of price and specs needed and it all just came down to these 2 trucks that happen to be these years.

I love the Series 60 but not post 2007 Series 60's. I'm sure this Series 60 will have a DPF on it which will completely ruin the performance and fuel mileage. I can tell you that from experience. None of the newer DD engine's problems have been corrected. The fleet I work for has some DD13's from 09, nothing but problems. They also have some newer 2012 DD equipped trucks and though the fuel mileage is better, within the first 50k miles everyone of them has been in the shop at least twice for emissions related issues. Stay away from both of these trucks unless you have the funds to live on while they are parked in the shop.

Get ECM download and pick the one with less emmison faults and lowest idle time on it .my old truck was 530 hp dd15 with tri weight I never had issues passing tandems in bc or Ontario uphill main issue with 09 Cascadias is the engine wiring harness only last 3or4 years in salty conditions before you start getting numerous codes. DD15 will be better on fuel running heavy and have a stronger jake

Wiring still rots on the newer ones and glider kits made in 2012, 2013. Yay codes. Cheap fix though.

Series 60 is probably the way to go, parts are easily available and most everyone knows how to work on them. I have worked on the DD15, good engine but not enough time and knowledge out there. If you are getting the series 60 look into the turbo, EGR cooler, EGR valve and intake throttle valve becoming issues down the road. These are big ticket items.
