I'm still about 6 months out from getting a Tripac and here it is, another summer, having to idle, so, until then, the DPF is beginning to get clogged up to the point where the frequency of regens are closer and closer, telling me once again, I'm going to have to get it cleaned.....ugh. I dealt with this last year sitting for 3 days in Boston at Freightliner, waiting to get it fixed.
I maintain a higher than normal idle when I'm sitting, doing what I can to offset it.
Is it an inherent flaw in the Blu Tec system? Or is it the amount of bio diesel we run? And if it's attributed to the fuel, is there a non scam additive that actually may work to have it burn cleaner? Or something else that may help?
Appreciate the input that anyone may have.

Forgot to add - Engine is a DD15

Bio is supposed to generate less particulates. The 2013 works good. I never have to do a parked regen unless I can't drive off with it. Nothing else is better, from what I hear, and smell when something malfunctions on one of the others but an individual truck may have more issues than is usual for other trucks of the same make and equipped with the same engine.
How is oil use and are there any other issues you might consider? -
One of the other problems that was discovered in addition to the clogged DPF filter when it was at FL at Boston, was a blockage in the DEF pump (Metering unit). The pump would come on, DEF would dose enough to start the regen, but wouldn't cycle correctly to get it to continue to deliver the proper dose of DEF during the regen. The ACM checked out but they replaced the pump and cleared the lines.
Like I said, I just have this feeling with the frequency of regens here in the last 2 months I'm gonna be down and out again.
Honestly, if I had my drothers along with the cash, I'd be giving serious consideration to a Glider right about now.........
I am still firmly convinced once I get an APU, most of the problems associated with idling and regens will go away. Just trying to get any additional ideas until then.Last edited: Aug 22, 2014

Do you have the auto idle elevate parameter enabled? If you dont, I would go to a dealer and get it enabled.
That will allow the engine to operate at a higher rpm every once in a while, while idling during long periods of time. -

It's the fact that you're idling that's causing most of the problem, and high percentages of biodiesel in your fuel don't help. DD15s that aren't operated in long-term idling situations don't usually have regen problems... anytime you're operating the engine in a situation that causes production of elevated levels of soot will do it.
My truck is an '09... I do a parked regen once a year, usually around the end of November. It's like clockwork. At that time the temperatures are dropping, and I will use the truck to bobtail on extended home time around Thanksgiving. All of this gangs up and I end up with a lot of soot in the filter. Other than that my truck only does a rolling regen occasionally... and yeah, I have an APU that's been in use since I got it with 1382 miles on the truck.
