96 freightliner dd 60 series. Air tanks fill up really slow and stay put around 65 psi for what seems to bea long period of time before they start climbing again to normal range of 110psi. I drained ever tank and saw no noticeable loquids. I'm thinking air governor but I'm not certain m any ideas fellas?

Try the gov. It's only around $15 and you can do it your self. Also, if you can, disconnect the supply line from tak to gov and blow out with air hose.

I have a 95 FLD, same engine. Mine does the same with new compressor and govener (was making oil). From my experience at around 60PSI is when everything starts to air up (air bags, sleeper bags, HVAC) after all that happens it runs up like normal and never shows any issues after. Just a thought.

Exactly what you said. Everything airs up at around .60psi. Changed the governor out and it stopped fluctuating up and down when running. However, the whole airing out at 60 psi still happens. Oh and yrs my makes a little oil also. Did you ever get it fixed? Thanx

Upgraded the compressor to a now style TruFlo 550. It needed rebuilt. Also, you can check the intake line between the compressor and the engine intake for oil slime. If it is oily its coming from the turbo and not the compressor.

I'm guessing the compressor rebuild is somewhat costly? Guess I'll start saving. Thanx for your comments and advise.

Just get a reman and don't fuss with rebuilding. They will want your old one as a core as well. Good luck.

to test the compressor get it to 80psi then time it from 80-100psi. should be no more than 40 seconds whether your idling or max rpm. if it is still slow, disconnect the air intake and the govenor, that way the govenor has no bearing on the compressor and the intake wont be restricted and if its still slow to build up pressure then it possbily a weak compressor or maybe something restricted in the air dryer.

Well the test from 80 to 110 was positive. No problems and went right up there. The problem is when I first start the truck and the air tanks are nearly empty. The psi go up slowly but when it reaches 60psi they stall for a long time until finally they begin going up in pressure almost at a normal rate.
