Another option... take the old cutout "Y" pipe idea from the old hot rod days and apply it to a retrofit. Have two ways exhaust can flow. Thru the DPF when there is a possibility of being tested, and switching the flow to a standard exhaust for all other times. I met a guy from Winnepeg a while back that had done this to all 6 of his trucks. His trucks regularly runs produce out of CA going back to Canada. When the possibility of being tested arises, he can switch from the cab via electric controlled valve to have exhaust go thru a add on DPF. All other times, the exhaust runs right thru the regular exhaust. He has never gotten a citation for this, as there is no part of the CARB regulations that prohibit it. As long as he is compliant at time of test being taken, he is legit.

Needless to say, he hardly ever uses the DPF side and therefore has never had to do a regen yet! The filter just hasn't collected enough to generate one. And the need to have the DPF filter cleaned is very remote if it would be necessary. He got the setup done at a retrofit supplier in California.

My solution? I have avoided California all of this century. Yep. Last load I took in or out of CA was in '99. Don't miss it a bit.

This is very interesting idea, take a 2014 Cascadia with DD15 and put a double exhaust on it. When you enter California - push a button and you are all legal, when you exit CA push a button and you have a pre-emission truck. Two questions arises: How much the upgrade will cost? How to get in touch with this company?

DEF is not a requirement in Cali, only a DPF. Learn the difference folks.
Secondly, this great "Y" pipe or cutout idea will no doubt do wonders to the ECM, which will HAVE to be programmed to run the DPF's injector etc. So change ECM's too then maybe? That sounds easy.....
OP, I wouldn't do it unless you pretty much have a killer deal in Cali. I will say that NON of our trucks that are older than 2007 have had a single issue as of yet.
