I was thinking to do that to my 2 000 000 miles engine and see what happens when I enter California....
because the opposite is illigal.

I have a better solution. Its going to cost more money to do this than the profits you will make unless you run California religiously. Avoid Cali if you can.

it is easier to swap engine with ecm from wrecked truck.... but paperwork?

You've got a truck that has been dependable for 2 million miles. Why mess with it? If you want a less reliable emissions truck, trade the truck you've got in for one...and then somebody who wants to spend their time on the road making money instead of in a shop having the emissions system maintained or repaired can buy that old reliable truck of yours and run it another million miles or so.Mooose Thanks this. -
That will be a first.

In the off chance that you are serious, all of the aftermarket items you want to install must be approved by CARB. I don't even think anyone makes an add on DEF system.

I'm going to say the same thing I say to the guys that are always wanting to do emission mod's, your trying to re-engineer something that was designed with a specific purpose, right or wrong. Personally I wouldn't waste my time with California if my truck wasn't eligible because of emission, what is the fascination with being able to run there? There's lots of work else where without the restrictions, how about a fascination with reliability, and good fuel economy? That I understand! -
I know this will be as impossible as stupid to do, but I was thinking more, what attention this 2001 Freightliner will bring at the weight station. Imagine one old multi million truck crossing the scales and the officers see DEF ONLY on the side panel.

Its legal to do so. Quite a few companies out there do this. I have explored this option for my 2004 Freightshaker! A retrofit costs about 19k. I opted not to do it!
