I've got an 05' columbia with a BXS C-15 Cat 500HP 690K all factory settings with an 18spd. Last week while driving up the highway empty it suddenly lost power like it shut down, the fan clutch cycled and the engine came right back. This all happened very fast within a second or two. I drove the truck another 300 miles that day no issues. The next day I drive 60 miles to delivery it does it twice while sitting at the dock. I head back to the shop and does it again about a mile away from the shop. I take it to Caterpillar we rule out the battery box, and any cat wiring harness. Cat guy is stumped and with out the Freightliner wiring schematics it would be a waste of my time to stay. I go to freight liner thinking the ECM is losing power, they have had it two costly days now they say the ECM is not losing power, and the mechanic says everything checks out he's just as confused as everyone else. The truck has died on him two times and just "faded" once. Anyone have this issue with theirs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the fuse box, where a relay needs to be pushed fully back into its socket. i.e. half in/half out.

This happened to me. Nobody could find it. I can't remember why but I opened the battery box and found one of my nuts wasn't tight. There was a small wire also going to this terminal. Come to find out it was the power wire to the computer. I would go over a bump and the computer would reset and shutdown the truck for a few seconds.

We have checked the battery box several times, and everything is where is should be.

I would set the idle high like 1,000rpm's and start wiggling wires

Found a 10 fuse with discolored prongs that powers the ECM. It was not blown, but hopefully it was failing causing the ECM to flash. We shale see...

i drove a 05 w9 with isx that did the same thing. spent $10G in 2 months with lotsa shop time. problem turned out to be same as skateboards.

ecm got it's power from the starter motor. wire ran along the frame and had a open in the wire insulation. was grounding out along the frame.

gotta say though. that battery box is pretty popular. $500 for each shop to do the same thing. only 1 shop actually replaced the wiring harness for the ecm and sensors. this particular wire causing the problem was separate of the harness that got replaced,.

not familiar with the wiring for the op. but check the frame. and anything else that wires can touch somewhere.

Thanks, I'm at a dead end if this does not work. Wiring issues are like an open check book at a shop, makes my belly hurt! It's been running all morning with out a hick up so I don't know.

Wiring issues are the worst of all time on any vehicle. I'd rather take a swift kick to the nuts than track down a short.
