It doesn't seem to matter how hard or easy I work/drive it, it use about a gallon of oil every 2500-3000 mi? I also have to do a regen about every 5000 miles. The best mpg I've gotten is 5... truck has 519000 miles on it and I keep the oil and filters changed every 15000 miles.

    I wouldn't even bother.
    Get rid of it.

There are a million things that could be wrong with the EGR Stuff, and not many shops good at fixing it.
What kind of weight and freight you pulling?
    As well as speed?

If I owned a Truck...I wouldn't even bother with a Truck that only gets 5mpg.
Unless you're REALLY heavy (over 80k) or running 80+ all the time.

You need an inframe IMHO. First you need a good mechanic or dealer you can trust. To make things worse I believe you're just out of warranty.

    Welcome to the club

    I had 1 gallon for every 1000mi. 2009 Cascadia DD15 has 780K miles now.
I did 100k miles and then it needed more, like gallon every 700mi.
just did overhaul. problem was oil rings on 3 cylinders.

    cost 11000$
    overhaul kit only 5400$

My 2013 DD15 goes 650 hrs (approx 17,000 miles) to next oil change and might go down a total of one quart of oil in that time. So yes, you probably have some bad rings.

'09 DD15 with 610,000 miles, uses a gallon of oil every 25,000 miles. It averages just above 8 mpg when driven in the 50's. I'd go with a Detroit shop for an inframe.

Key phrase "if I owned a truck". Last time I checked it isn't usually as easy as get rid of it.

My old truck was a 2009 cascadia with a DD15 with 1.4 million km (900,000)miles I changed oil every 25,000 miles.. The only gallon of oil it used was the one in the cubby that wore a hole in container trim rubbing through after 4 yrs ... Properly driven and low idle time most go a millon plus from what I hear

i don't know about the million plus. mine only has 350k and has already spent the cost of a overhaul. in just the past 2 months. good thing for warranty.

it was a darn good truck the first 125k i put on it. starting to have second opinions on her now.

Probably a scored liner, causing you to burn oil. Could also be the turbo seal on the outlet side leaking, or the APT leaking. Would get it fixed when you can, due to the dpf getting plugged with ash. The nice thing about the new detroit software (07 and up) is you can do a relative compression test on the laptop and not even have to pull the valve cover to test for a bad cylinder.
