Well, the butcher's bill is in....it was a bad Turbo Boost sensor ($550 incl. labor)....all in all, I think I got off cheap!!!!...I'm taking advantage of the down time, and I'm having them set the engine free (old JB Hunt truck, 65mph limit and god knows what else!)....

Picked up the truck earlier today, the bill was $531.49 for the new turbo boost sensor, the new connector and labor...also an additional $129 to have the limiter removed and the engine parameters set to stock or factory settings.

Keep in mind these driving impressions are bobtail, tomorrow I'll have a load for the first time since repairs and will truly know if its fixed.

The engine sounds DRAMATICALLY smoother at idle and while accelerating, the acceleration seems effortless in comparison to the last two weeks, the limiter is now removed so I found myself doing 80mph in no time (HOLY SH>>>).....the driveability of the engine is MUCH, MUCH better!!!!...the change really is AMAZING!!! Almost like it's a different truck!!!!

My guess is when they did the overhaul a month ago, they ripped the sensor and the switch damaging it, and the sensor has been receiving an intermittent signal ever since...since the truck and engine are new to me, I did not notice the obvious fault until the sensor gave up the ghost!!!...

At least, I hope this is fixed!!!!

The work was done at TransChicago Truck Group in Elmhurst, IL....they are a Freightliner/Western Star dealer AND a Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar and Cummins dealer...

Well, hauled a 40 foot container (43K) yesterday, engine pulled flawlessly, much, MUCH less noise coming from the engine, MUCH smoother shifting, almost like driving a different truck... The labor cost was a ripoff (sensor and new connector costs $73 bucks, rest was labor at $129 per hour). but the truck is like night and day....now, if I can only get my mpg's above 6.2................

One thing I'll mention, the truck now runs like the other two Detroits I've run (DD15, DD13) much smoother and pulling willingly, still, I kinda expected more from 515hp....the other trucks I've run Detroits with were both under 450HP......

    x#1 Thanks this.
