Hey all, we are currently in the middle of getting a loan from a finance company to buy our 1st truck after being a company driver for 23 years. As usual, try to keep the price low as possible but don't buy junk. I found a truck about 100 miles away from me and I'm scratching my head on this one. Ok, here is the details: 2007 Freightliner Columbia 120 with 490hp 14L Detroit, 10 speed, 3.58 rears, 70" condo sleeper, double bunk, and tire inflation system. 974K miles with 300K on inframe, It DOES have paperwork. It looks like a very clean truck. But I do see one flaw in a picture, the passenger side sleeper extender is bent up so I'm guessing someone jackknifed it or backed into it. Price tag is $33,500. Worth it? Too high? Will it need a complete overhaul with those miles?

I wouldn't worry about the Cab Extender as long as the alignment comes out good and their is no obvious damage to the drivetrain rear of the cab. I'm a little confused and worried as to why that thing needed an in-frame at just over 600k.

That's what I'm wondering. I'm more knowledgeable with cars and pickup trucks. A Diesel engine is new to me.

IIRC 2007 was the first year they tried that whole DPF filter crap. The DPF and DEF systems have had some pretty nasty unintended consequences all across the board. I don't really know the complexities of the aforementioned consequences though.

That's a great start. I assumed you did your due diligence before i posted, but in case you haven't a couple things you should be doing IMO before making any deals.

1.Oil sample reports going back as far as possible
    2.ECM reports
3.Maint. records of course. The more the better.
    4.Dyno Test

I'm sure theirs more, but that's just what's coming off the top of my head.

    Sounds a bit high.

Maybe keep looking. Doesn't feel right.

Why / how did they fry the engine 300k ago ?
