This is my second detroit, I had a 2005 DDEC V before on 1.3 million miles and was very quiet on idle. This one rattles all the furniture inside and has only 800 k miles. I am getting good MPG from 6.8 to 7.3, the truck runs better on higher rpm. What do you think is wrong: Bad valve adjustment, bad injectors, what else?

could be harmonic balancer, recommended replacement @ 500,000 miles. Pittsburgh Power has a replacement and a special ring they claim is better, I don't have experience. I would try that first, and then an overhead. I'm not an awesome mechanic, but I learned to do overheads myself because it's not hard and I wanted to make double sure it's right.

800k I'd get bull gear checked as well ... If it's worn it could cause a rough idle if timing is a bit off ... X2 for the vibration damper

Check the colour of your fuel before you fill up. If it is black, it may be that a seal has gone on your fuel pump, allowing engine oil to leak back into the fuel. If it is excessive it will cause this.
happened to me once. Although my symptom was more like a miss at idle.Verdel Thanks this. -
I just noticed, my front engine mounting is smashed and some pieces of rubber sticking out. Is it possible worn out mountings to be the source of the rattling? How many mountings this engine has? 3 or 4? I will go to the shop next week and replace them all.
