Pretty sure you can put just about anything in there. Might be some issues if you're in California though. But it would make more sense to me to put the $15k with the $27k and get a nicer/lower mileage truck to start with. A 1.2 million mile truck, if not meticulously maintained, is gonna have other issues soon. Just my 2 cents.

The company I'm with just had an inframe done an a 500 Detroit for right little over 5k, was smoking like a freighttrain and used a gallon of oil to pretty much start the engine, just did a basic inframe, used our shop and had an mechanic come by and do it on the weekend. Reason we did that though is we know the truck, have had it in service for a couple of years and reason it needed an engine was not due to the truck but the driver.

 

You have to put an engine in that meets the emissions requirements that the truck was originally registered for. So, you would not be able to put a pre-emission based engine in an '07 unless it was originally registered as a glider.

 

tip: buy a low mileage truck with epa07 isx engine. then replase the dpf cartridge with dummy dpf muffler (j ball sells them) and live without problems. but be careful if you enter to calipornia!
