The box is 10 speed 3 pedal auto shift.
The transmission will stick in gear and can't shift to neutral. After a few attempts will go to neutral, then can't go into gear. I noticed that once in gear, will shift up and down without problems. This problem only occurs when I am trying to shift from "D" to "N" or "R" and back. If I shut down the engine, on the next morning works perfect.
I have the following codes: Active codes: 25 (means no codes) Inactive codes: 63 (Gear Select Motor), 75 (this one is because was shut down in gear), 17 (Start Enable Relay)
I went to Freightliner and showed them the codes. The mechanic said, to be safe, replace everything: TCM $1572.63, XY Shifter $770.58, Harness $190.72. OK, but why replace all 3 if maybe only the HARNESS is bad, or the XY SHIFTER?
What do you think?

It's getting over heated, when it cools down it then works fine until it get over heated again.
I would stick an out of the rad transmission cooler on the truck, it may or may not solve you problem.
With an inline filter on both lines to cache any foreign particles and dirt.
Lets see if any one else has an idea about this problem and a fix.Last edited: Mar 13, 2015

If you go to Mexico, they will probably fix this for a few thousand pesos. I am thinking if the xy assembly is bad, maybe only one motor is bad. Armando will fix the motor on the spot (replace bearings etc) and you don't pay for the whole thing. You can probably get this motors from the scrap yard. If the TCU is bad - search on eBay.

The life of the x-y shifter is 400-500 000 miles. If you are around this milage, better start with replacing it. The harness can go bad too, the most expensive part is the TCU. Get the Eaton manuals and do the "Electrical Pretest", then do the test for code 63 "Gear Select motor" and you will know if you have bad harness or not. Do this yourself, because at the dealer, they will replace all 3. For bad TCU you get different codes.
