Why not 560hp? More the better.

the claim is higher hp = more fuel consumption.

i haven't found that to be true yet.

one truck i drove with an isx got the computer unrestricted. full throttle, full power and i got .5 better.
another truck i drove also with an isx. was a 475 compared to the first truck with a 450. it also got better then the first truck but not as good once the computer was opened up on the first truck.

my experience has been more power equals faster accelleration to speed. and more speed up the hills. which equates to less time with the pedal to the floor. makes for faster journeys. less engine run time.

put it all together and you have better fuel economy. but that's just been my experience. and most of my OTR. has been the west coast mountains.

another example would be the uphill climb from phoenix to flagstaff.
if i run the engine around 1400. i dno't remember the time length but the mileage was 3.80.
if i run the engine around 1700. it's 15 minutes faster and mileage was 4.10

almost all dd15 shows 560hp on engine label. That's not the real HP. You will need to hookup to computer to see the real hp setup. Mine has 560 hp on label and computer shows 455hp.

hp is great but torque is what gets you up the hills. lets say you have 355 rear ends with a ten over drive and you run pretty much all over, with a torque setting of about 1750 would be ideal. i do not think you would notice much of a fuel loss with the 560 hp setting. that being said if you run local ltl deliveries close to home would consider the 455 setting just because you would not really need the bigger hp. just remember fuel consumption could make or break you. lots of luck on your choice the dd 15s are really great engines.

make sure the truck is EPA10 . The truck has DEF tank. Some of 2010 cascadias are EPA07.

My 2013 Western Star 4900SB has the DD15 505/1650. (And yes they all say 560 on the valve cover.) I gross 140,000 pounds (dump truck and pony) and my area is full of 8 to 12% grades.

If you are pulling any kind of weight, get the bigger one. My 505 is getting worse fuel mileage than our 600.
I also thought the smaller motor would have less SCR/DPF issues than the big motor, as it is always working harder.....but this has not been the case either.

Only benefit I have seen to the lower rating is the extended warranties were way cheaper.
