Hey fellas....I am need of some help on this electrical issue. Batteries all are fully charged. Coolant level is OK. Power is on to main buss line. Power comes out of the 25 amp breaker on the power buss to starter switch. Accessories, fan, headlights, etc...with exception of interior cab lights come on when starter key switch is turned on. But when I press the start button after all the dash warning lights/display lights come on and go off....nothing happens, except low air warning buzzers stay on. No clicking....no sound. This truck has been running and starting just fine until the cold weather hit us. Like me, apparently, it doesn't like cold weather. I would try to remember to run it a little each day or so during the cold weather. Some days it would start just fine....other days....nothing...just like above. The weather has warmed up now....but now I guess it is taking some unauthorized R&R...
This is a truck I use for ranch hauling operations and it is not easily accessible or inexpensive for a truck mechanic to make a house call to.
I have the wiring schematic for the truck which is on the back side of the kick plate under the dash....but I don't have a copy of the Detroit Diesel Operating Manual. Does anyone have this or know where I can get a copy? I guess I will check out DD to see if I can download it....
I would sure appreciate some help with possible suggestions for me to check out. Thank you in advance.

it may possibly be a bad ground to the frame. freightliners have a small computer module usually under your cup holder under the dash. if it doesn't have a good ground or hot connection it will cause this computer to allow only the necessary lighting and gauges to work.

    okrancher Thanks this.

First thing I'd check is the solenoid on the firewall. It's a common thing. You can jump the terminals and see if it tries to start. Follow the small wires from the starter to the firewall to locate.

My 2006 Century did that. Turned out to be a corroded wire right on the terminal of the solenoid on the firewall near the steering column. Not sure where it is on an FLD.
I wound up replacing the solenoid, as I snapped a stud on it. It only cost $18 for a new solenoid.
i used a jumper wire to start it for a few days until I got the part.

Thanks uncleal13....I'll try out your suggestion. A question: did you have to pull the starter motor when you removed the solenoid? And did you have to get it from Freightliner? Mine is a Delco-Remy.

Thanks 40calglock....I'll check out your suggestion and try it. But I need a little more clarification. The solenoid on the firewall? Is this inside the engine compartment on the firewall or inside the cab on the firewall? And is it a solenoid or a relay? Please understand that I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to what I am trying to do.
I'll let you know what I experience and get back with you.

Thanks bad-luck, uncleanl13, and 40calglock....your suggestions brought about a successful fix. I checked out the ground connections to be OK and I was able to find the solenoid where you described it and jumped the terminals. Big F started right up....I was able to make a run today and get some supplies before another storm came in and it was sure a relief to be able to find out what was the problem and get it solved. I will try cleaning the terminal connections on the solenoid when I get some time, and if that doesn't do the permanent fix I will replace it. I really appreciate your time and suggestions in helping me with my problem. It is really great to have this forum available that has guys (and gals) that can help. Again, my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your help.
