I'm dedicated to the hydrite company...

was supposed to pick up my pre-loaded trailer this a.m. and hustle it up the road to deliver at 9:00 a.m. needed to leave by 4a.m. to make the run on time.

trailer was supposed to be ready to go by 2a.m. latest.

I needed fuel and didn't fill up the previous night so I came in at 3a.m. to hook, grab the papers, and boogie to the truck stop for some coffee and fuel.

3-3:30 wandered the lot and couldn't find my truck or trailer.

3:30-4 found the truck sitting in a load bay, still needed to run across the scale. did that and headed in for papers...

4-4:15 waiting on papers to print out. finally got those.

4:15-4:30 *RUNNING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT* to catch the driver they gave my papers too... before he headed to wisconsin... got my papers (for nebraska) and hit the road.... lol

6a.m. called my dispatch and said this is horsie-doo and don't blame me if its late...

was told not a problem, we are already aware of it... circle the "live load" box on your call sheet... pays $15.00 for being ed around.

skipped my pee-break and was only 15 minutes late to the unload.

hustled thru the unloading and our #2 driver rolled in with the second load as I was pulling out. (good timing and back on schedule more or less)

got back and off work at 2:30.

pay: 246 miles each way = 196.80 + 15 load + 15 unload + 10 suit = $236.80 for the day.

Good company... not sure what else to say about them...

hope I don't screw up... I kinda like it thus far.

welp, yesterday I did my first load of sulphuric acid 93%

asked the boss, one more time, how do I do it...??? blah blah blah... ok how nasty is it?

wear your suit and mask and face shield, don't get it on you, wash it off if does... don't panic... I got it on me before... blah blah blah.

a little too blah blah.... for my tastes...

went and asked the kid that does the loading... he said what????

yeah it washes off alright...

pulled his sleaves up and showed me the scars on his arms...

I was holding the hose when it ran off my glove... sprayed it off in two seconds and it still kept eating...

hmmm..... so its like battery acid???

heck no... battery acid is 19% this stuff is 93%... you basically got 30 seconds until it hits the bone... don't get any on you period... and if you do start washing and don't stop for anything.

hmmm.... well alrighty then...

went on my merry way a bit puckered...

hooked up... started unloading... and about 20 minutes in a leak developed in a cam lock seal...

minor panic thinking oh' @$*&(%...

then I shut it all down, took it all apart... changed the seal... washed the heck out of my gloves... and fired it back up. success...

finished uneventful thank god... and the pucker receeded nicely... hehehe

doing my first koh tomorrow, though I've played with that stuff making biodiesel so I'm a little more comfy with it.

I'm not generally such a nervous pansy type... just the guys arms looked naughty and he had a real graphic way of explaining it... "here look at this"... ewwww...

lmao

pays still good : )

here we go sports fans... the final word on pay...

$1,223.50 left monday morning... was home everynight, though not long enough a few
nights, 5 days and off for the weekend... did I work that saturday??? crap I'm not sure... lol I don't think I did because I was out of hours.

that is the case this week, am home the whole weekend... only had 5 hours left and I was tired anyways...

will do one more update atleast as to the bad side of things... need another month here at least to figure out what exactly it is... so far just been the normal trucking bs, get to the receiver and they ain't ready for me or my jit appointment.

anyways... did $1,150 last week and was happy, this was a hustler week, paid good but not sure I want that pace anyhow... am fine with the 1000 range and not wondering where I am or what time it is...

still... 1223.50 X 52 = $63,622 for a year???? I suppose I could sweat it out... hehehe

nahhhh... I'm not that greedy, ya'gotta have time to spend it also ya'know....

seenya

I hope what you say about Gless is correct. I plan to be one of your co workers by the end of summer.

We'd love to have you...

So far the job isn't bad. you do WORK for your money but the pay is there.

I've been home every single night since starting with a minimum 10 hours off.

now in honesty and fairness... I seriously mean I've had atleast (10) hours off. sometimes exactly ten off. which means basically 7 or 8 at home on 5-6 hours of actual sleep time. I commute to work.

This, so far, only happens once or twice a week. most runs I get 13-14 hours off before my next run leaves out.

and so far... I'm basically happy...

weekend off, home thru the week, and money in my pocket...

I don't see it ever being any better than that anywhere...

Prelude to what follows for those interested...

I got a p.m. from a guy interested in joining gless, just had a few questions. After unsuccessfully p.m.'ing and running late on time I had him give me a call at his convenience and we talked for about a half hour.

One of his questions was, "you aren't recruiting for the company or getting PAID to recruit for them, this is a big change and <para-phrasing> the credability goes way down if the guy you are talking to is being rewarded for bringing in new drivers"

I assured him I am not being compensated am just happy and blogging my experiences to pass the word to those interested.

He asked if he should mention my name and I said doesn't matter...

ok... and now the rest of the story:

Friday afternoon I was headed down the road to get fuel on my way out to Eddyville. *phone rang*

Rick, our safety guy, called and wanted to know how everything was going... very weird talk.... and I was waiting for the shoe to drop...

he had a "gooey", "hey buddy" feel to his voice... we're just feeling the love and wanting to know how you're doing...

so I was thinking... here it comes? some customer complained or I screwed something up and after the nice comes... by the way, bend over... cuz here it comes...

after all the niceties, he says you know a guy named joe? (psuedo-name)

yeah we've talked a few times... what's up???

well he is getting his physical and heading to training here shortly and I'm callilng to thank you, our drivers are our best asset at advertizing and really the only ads we have because we don't do the truck stop booklet thingy...

ok ??? well glad I could help...???

you didn't sugar coat anything to this guy did you???

nope just told him how it is as I see it and what's been happening to me is all... got a blog posted.

ok, well just be very honest with anyone you talk to, we don't want guys coming in for pie and ice cream thinking we don't work for a living.

yeah, no problem, its all good...

great... glad to hear it and glad you're enjoying the job... btw if joe stays 90 days we'll be sending you a $750.00 recruiting bonus.

*gasp* No (four letter word for fooling) ???

now I am glad at the money but was not expecting it and didn't know or care about it.

If (joe) goes the 90 and I get the check I plan on passing a good chunk to him as a sign-on bonus.

Don't know what else to say... I'm not stupid enough to refuse money, but kinda feel like ol' ricky boy... stabbed my credibility with that phone call.

So... take it as you will... I'll be 100% honest and try to back up everything I say from this point on with any available documentation so future readers will still, hopefully, be able to feel a measure of confidense

I'm not stringing anybody along looking to recruit guys for a better payday for myself.

If you have any questions, ask away, or pm... be well all...

"Joe" here. Thanks six but honestly keep your money. I was more than happy to pass your name along. As I said it meant a lot that you were not the one to mention putting your name down. I had a moment of panic when I couldn't remember your name while talking to...damn now I forgot the recruiter guys name!!! I remebered your last name and that was enough for him to know who I was referring to. That in itself is a good omen about the company. They actually know who works for them. I am starting orientation in blue grass on the 11th.

It a good omen and most of the office guys know me... hmmm but then I'm a pain/thorn in their sides at times also...

Rick, hehe I know he knows me... first time we met he says hi, I'm rick the safety supervisor...

I said, "really? You don't look like an A$$-hole..."

but he laughed... whew...

=

anyways... glad you decided to give it a whirl... its pretty good money for we do.

I can't say I've never been out over night anymore though....

went to manistique michigan monday.... had to leave out sunday to make my appointment monday morning... nice drive and very pretty country. Have no clue what it pays???? will find out next week I suppose.

seenya...
