Gordon Local Oregon

From what the guys still driving over there tell me, there's not that much local work to go around in the PNW.

 

2 year old info. So if memory is not totally shot......

Millersburg and Salem work the paper mills. Millersburg shop had a good rep.

Portland/Klacamus was just a screwed up mess through my eyes.

Not sure if they are still doing heavy haul in that area.

 

Late reply but every time I have delivered to the Oregon transfer service (beverages) on Cutter Circle in Portland, Gordon seemed to be the main player there with 4axle trucks & trailers.

Last time there was just under a year ago & all was the same

 

Gordon's approval rate is currently rated 38%, tied with CR England and below Swift. Is that the kind of company you want to work for?

They have low pay, low miles, and have more rules than any other company I have ever seen. I could not honestly recommend Gordon to anybody in any circumstance until they clean their act up.

I would avoid at all costs. If I had known what I know now, I would not have even showed up to orientation. Really.

The office workers are nice, but the rules and procedures are something out of the third Reich. They also do not take excuses, even if valid. If you avoided a head on collision and caused minor damage to your truck...even with witnesses, they will not care.

One of my classmates asked two different people and got the same answer in front of the entire class. If you try to save yourself or the truck, you are responsible for any resulting damage, regardless of the reason why.

Is that the kind of company you want to work for?

My experience has been absolutely infuriating.

Its like a bad comedy where the Third Reich ended up secretly starting a trucking company and hiring a bunch of unsuspecting innocent midwesterners to run it for them.

Nein! 65 mph is VERBOTEN!

Bobtailing into base, I mean terminal? Before you can take your loaded trailer, you must hook up to an empty trailer in the yard and have it inspected. If it has a problem, you sit attached to it until its fixed. 15-45 minutes of wasting your time UNPAID to inspect a trailer you didnt even use... then you can go drop it, bobtail over and get your loaded one. And then... Then you have to drive it through the truckwash!

Then add on a half dozen Macros and entries you must complete... and which do not exist at other companies. So it takes an hour or more to complete something many drivers could do in 15 minutes flat if there werent so many absurd procedures to do. If even the slightest problem occurs... two hours to do a basic drop and hook.

Even when I was with Werner, I never once experienced the kind of absolutely mind blowing level of irritation I get from the way this company runs things.

And Why would anybody go through this kind of crap and struggle to make $800 a week when many companies have GUARANTEES that the minimum is $1000 or more? Why would someone go with Gordon over an LTL paying hourly? Or a guaranteed paycheck somewhere else?

They just arent competitive.

 

I think we get that. ...but the more you go on complaining like this,the more it makes you look less credible, in other words you made your point and move on...we know Gordon has gone downhill but to keep the whining wagon going doesn't help you...if you are trying to keep drivers from going there, we'll good luck because we've been trying that with England and they still go anyway...see the point.

 

I have an honest question for you. Why would anybody listen to vague warnings others respond to nearly every detailed post by trying to shame the driver?

You are warning people against CR England, while simultaneously berating anybody who gives detailed descriptions. Nobody is going to give detailed descriptions, because they know people will do exactly what you are complaining that other drivers do to you. Then you do it right back.

The entire problem is that every trucker complains about not being listened to, then refuses to listen to others.

As you've already said, it doesn't work the way you are doing it now. So why are you continuing to do the exact thing you already said you know doesn't work?

It should be clear that vague warnings are absolutely useless, and if people want to be taken seriously, they need detailed explanations.

There have to be detailed descriptions of what is wrong or nobody will know what in the heck they are supposed to be careful about in the first place.

 

I'm with you brother. I went to Gordon in 2013. Worst mistake I ever made. It was a great company at one point, but micromanagement and the Heartland buying them made it bad. Leaving there was the best decision I ever made.
