I think people that can't hear and/OR read shouldn't be driving anything, it's a safety issue...You need to be able to read signs, they're all not colored and geometric and you need to be able to hear...

Oh hell, there are plenty of them. Also, we have some deaf drivers working for us. At least I assume they are deaf, they dont hear a F##king word you tell them.

sorry to hear this (absolutely no pun intended) but by the time you might have to start wearing g hearing aids, it might be close to your retirement anyways...???

if not, with a long record of safe driving, i'm sure a job (dare i say) in the office can be available to you.

If you cannot hear, you cannot pass the DOT physical. Without a valid med card, your license is not valid for a cdl vehicle.

Now when it comes to dispatchers, I thought being retarded was a job requirement. Not sure if you can be deaf and be a dispatcher. It would seem to be an unfair advantage since dispatchers ignore your telephone calls anyway. If your a deaf dispatcher your really not ignoring the calls. You just can't hear the phone ring. Hmmm?

Is being deaf a job requirement for night dispatch? I wonder?

I will not need them till I loose another 5% in one ear and 6% in the other.
Then it will be hearing aids. I will be ok with those. I am 40 now, cannot retire till at least 65.

Sorry to upset the flow here, but can anyone point me in the direction of the thread that talked about all the health issues that can get you disqualified? I swore I saw one but I've been searching for fifteen minutes can can't find it for the life of me.

Sara, i am not sure one particular thread was for health issues as from time to time many people here post about this or that.

there is a "driver's health corner" board further down the home page though.

and this may be of some help to you too.
