give Brown Tire in Portage, IN a call. They are a Goodyear dealer and last time I bought steers for my FLD (Jan, 2011) I got a set of 16ply for $450 a tire OTD tax free :)

    BigBadBill Thanks this.

they had a set of 8 lo-pro 22.5 drives for $1600 included mounting and new valve stems at TA-Effingham, IL last week. They were new re-caps being sold as used. I would only guess that maybe somebody ordered the wrong size or something. looked like a good deal to me, maybe you mount 4 and take the other 4 home ? If you're running lo-pro 22.5's that is....

Check around the tire dealers in your hometown! Alot of times you can work good deals with them, if they know you live in the area and will be a repeat customer!

I used to get tires from a local dealer when I lived in SC. He would section tires and sell them pretty cheap. Never had a problem with those tires, running heavy containers, except for recaps. Sectioned tires are tires that have been blown out and he would vulcanize them and repair them.

    Thanks, I will do.

Also had a farmer tell me that the on 16-ply that local shops can do better because they do so many of these. Field work can destroy steers.

oc ... you're wiht Swift. We get a national discount directly from the manufacturer. I paid $2700 for 8 virgin Bridgestones ... plus a free alignment and a meal at the LR Petro.

I didn't think about local sales tax, thanks for the tip bill, I'll take that into consideration next time.

National account is not always the best but you did get a good price there. I was about $500 more OTD with various national accounts with Bridgestone.

Some of these large O/O only companies really bend the driver over. The price is great then they start charging commission per tire.

I will be at MATTS and will shop for steers there. Even with a small fleet I am now seeing offers to try stuff at big discounts or even free. But normally stuff I don't really care about.

I don't know where you are, or if you'll pass through the South in time, but check out Southern Tire: http://www.stmtires.com/

Size? Brand? Tread design? Not much info here...

After 40 years in this biz I find that you get what you pay for... every new tire I buy is a Michelin... took me years to pull the trigger but Michelin's are the cheapest tires to own for the long haul. I also get my casings retreaded by Michelin. I have a few (even two Goodyears!) that are on their 3rd retread... just got 4 redone for my trailer for less than $600.00.
