Non CDL Straight Truck, Need a Logbook, Med. Card?

I will say this much if you driver over 150 AIR miles from your home terminal you have to log it period . Your one and only saving grace is if you punch a clock before you leave on your route. I almost got a nice 400 buck ticket in Indiana athte 33 interchange of the indy pike ...they dot guy was gonna fry me till he figured out i didnt need a log book but had one and gave it to him like an idiot . I didnt need one excpet the boss required but DOT didn't go figure that one. I am from Ohio too lol ..

 

All the info is ALMOST correct. You do need a log book and are subject to HOS for any commercial vehicle over 10,000lbs with any class of license. If you do not have a CDL, and are driving a vehicle under 26,000lbs, you do NOT need a medical card. Since you have a Class B license, even though you are in a class C truck, you DO need a medical card (in any vehicle over 10,000 GVW actually).

 

All commercial motor vehicle operators must carry an up to date health card. Even if driving less than CDL required vehicles.

I'll even help you out. I was a chauffeur for 4 years. All chauffeurs are required to have health cards. We were operating commercial vehicles.

 

Hmmm, that must vary by state then. At least in CA, no med card required for class C drivers driving 10K-26k GVW commercial. Only need a Med if you have a CDL and are driving 10K GVW and +

Not familiar with passenger endorsement requirements.

 

Nope, the med card is a federal requirement.
If your driving without one, pray you don't get pulled over.

 

Dang,,,get a little confusing....
I am looking into hotshoting... I am looking at a Ford E350 cargo van with an 8.5 x 16 enclosed trailer. GVWR of said van is 13,000 and the trailer is 7000 So, do I need to follow the same rules I do for my current CDL A?

Sheepdog, If the combination weighs over 26K, a cdl is required. If the trailer in the combination has a gvwr of 10k or more, A cdl A would be required. Looks like you have a combination weight rating of 20k, so you don't need a cdl. But you will be driving a commercial motor vehicle since you are over 10k, and thus subject to hos, and d/a testing and ALL the other stuff.

 

To clarify,, the GVWR on the van is 9400lbs not 13K... but, since I will be pulling another vehicle, that will definetly have a GVWR of more than 600lbs, will that still make me subject to HOS and what not?

Thanks Roadmedic,,,I think I have it now... Since the Van will have a GVWR of 9400lbs I wont fall under the rules required for a vehicle with a GVWR of 10,001 Regardless of the trailer,,,Right?
