It will be Johnson, I feel that the only person that can really challenge him is Jeff, or maybe Martin. But the 48 team really turns it up in the chase each year. As long as a HMS car takes it home, I will be very happy. I wish the 88, or Rick Hendrick, would figure out what the problem is and get that 88 up near the top where it belongs.

Well is it gonna come down between Stewart, Gordon, and Johnson for the championship? Or can Martin pull it out? I'd like to see him win it, he always seems like class act.

what a wild "fuel milage" finish. most have been boring. staying consistent throughout the race is a plus for junebug,he has seemed to hit the stride midrace then lose the handle on it. better times are ahead for the "JR nation"!!

The following item was part of the National Speed Sport News review of the Year 1974 (June 3, 2009 issue).

Fifteen-year-old Mark Martin was too young to have a home-state driver's license when he won the six-cylinder stock car championship at Arkansas's Benton Speedbowl.

New restart rules may start in Sunday's Cup race. The race leader would have a choice of lanes, and lapped cars restart at the back. The third place car will always restart in the inside lane. This is different from some short tracks where the leader restarts by himself in the middle of the first row.

Jeff was long overdue. It could be a close contest for the championship this year. Mark needs a win, and Jr. needs to show that he and his cousin can tune a chassis during a race. These races are being won or lost in the pits. I had to listen to Martinsville and Bristol on the car radio. The hype and exaggeration of NASCAR on radio is too much. Radio makes NASCAR sound like a World of Outlaws event.

We took the guided tour of Atlanta Motor Speedway. No racing was scheduled and the driving instruction program was rained out. However, the track was dry enough for the tourist van to run up on the banking and make the sharp turn into the pits. I enjoyed the ride and so did my seven-year-old grandson.

The Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame has found a temporary home.
The hall of fame will have a public exhibit within the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners for the next three years, offering special race car theme exhibits through 2011.

I was concerned about our local boy still having a job. He was supposed to be jack man for Ryan Newman, but then I read that Newman's new crew chief at Stewart-Haas came from DEI and brought his crew with him. Our local boy had been jack man for Almendinger at Red Bull. When Newman's car fell off the jack during the Daytona 500, I wondered who made a mistake. Newman said the clutch bled out. It was not the jack man's fault. Local boy's mom reported that he is the jack man and his hand was slammed to the ground when the car moved and tipped the jack. He loves working for Stewart-Haas where he works in the machine shop full time during the week and jacks on the weekends. I hope they have better luck in California.

As a Mark Martin fan, I am looking forward to a very good racing season. The last few years have been frustrating.
