| I don;t believe I have ever seen one of their trailers behind an O/O truck. They run a very tightly controlled program, probably not something any O/O would like anyhow. |

| Heartland Express controls your pay! I work there but hopefully not much longer. Read on. Heartland boasts about their .49-.53 cents per mile pay but they don't want you to know that that's all they want to pay you for. They think nothing of making you sit for 6- 10 hrs to cover one of their Priorty Loads( Fed Ex, Sears, Unilever, Whirlpool etc) that only goes 200-300 miles but can't deliver until the next day. If you ask for compensation they say "I could pay you something, but payroll will kick it back because you ran over 250 miles yesterday". I don't know about anyone else but i am not concerned about yesterday, only today and tomorrow. How about working the weekend for less than 600 miles for both days? They talk about communication but that is a oneway street. You do all of the communicating but get nothing resolved. They are very tightly controlled by the home office, just ask any Heartland Driver. |

| Heartland did suck when I drove for them, but that was about 5 years ago. Not enough miles and the company trucks were to darn slow! However they may have changed a bit since then. |

| You're dead on with heartland express, i just quit, on friday the 13th no less. they let you sit long hrs, their {Heartland cares} extra $ is fast a thing of the past. they only care that load arrives not about what it does to you or your pay. if you kick up a fuss they will shut you down for 24 hrs. and tell you there just wasn't any freight. If headaches are what you want this is your company. I worked there 5 and 1/2 yrs |

| it was OK it was an OK co. to work for,if you had a fleet mgr who worked with you.I was there for 2yrs 3mo.Had to leave them cause my x-wife lost custody of our sons and now i need to be home more than 36 hrs a week.If your single or got someone taking care of stuff at home for you its OK.The post about their priority loads that got to go is very correct.HTLD is not a typical trucking co. with 64mph trucks.It is a medium to short haul.i was a system driver but i would only recommend regional for the 36 hrs off.And me living just 54 mi.from Chicago wanting loads in and out of there to start my week or to get home seem somewhat of a stretch for them.if you dont want to do their crazy Fedex,dont keep hazmat endorsement,if you dont got one you wont get Fedex runs.Good luck |

| Is this typical of Heartland? After 11 years with a company that is going bankrupt, my brother in law found himself looking for another company to work for. He didn't have much time and he liked what Heartlands website and recruiter said so he went on down to Orientation and is in his first week with them. When we talked to him today, he was ready to turn his truck in already. For starters, the recruiter told him that he would get 25-2800 miles.. then when he got to orientation, they said that they never said that and that he would get about 2200. He got his first load dispatched to Carlisle, PA and the routing was for the toll roads for which they have transponders. BUT his dispatcher said that since the load wasn't a "hot" load, they would not pay for the tolls and he would have to go an alternate route, but get paid for the shorter, toll road mileage. They said that if he used his transponder, they would charge the tolls back to him. Also, he was told that if he went home on a Wednesday (bobtailed) they would charge him $1/mile from Columbus, OH to his home in MI... roughly $250. They would hold it out of his check just in case he decided to quit. There were a few more really odd things he has discovered but those were the biggest. Is this typical? When he first told us that he was going to orientation at Heartland and that they did not pay for orientation, both my husbands and my first instinct was to tell him to run.. run fast and far. It just seemed that Heartland must have a lot of drivers quit on them.. so they don't invest anything in their drivers. No wonder drivers quit. He is already back to work looking for another company. If he quits within 60 days he has to pay his bus ticket back but he is just viewing it as a "stupid" tax. Has anyone had any similar findings with them? |
