Do any of you guys that run a lift axle on your truck have shocks on it?

I have not seen one that does, I am thinking that the next time I take a week off I might see if I can't engineer something up to put shocks on mine.

No shocks on the one I run. However, with the psi adjustment valve, when going over rough terrain you can hear it bleed air out when it goes over the weight it's set for, so it's not like it doesn't adjust up and down, if that makes sense?
Sorry, doing a reset so I'm a beer or three deep in a sixpack...LOL

Mine was a tri drive, so it had shocks. But I don't see why a good pair of gas charged shocks wont take the bounce out of it myself.
    Just my .02...

I don't either, space is definitely at a premium though, the other hurdle that I see is the amount of travel that the axle does, from all the way up, to being extended when in rough terrain, such as off road or "dips" at intersections in towns, not to mention how far it might have to extend coming off some of these speed bumps on the highways, also know as bridges.

The other thing that could be an issue, is when you raise or lower the axle it does not go straight up or down, when it is in the up position and you hit the button to put it down it moves back 2"-3" also.

Pivot point on the lift brackets for the top mount? Hard to figure it out without seeing it.
On off road rigs, I have seen a pivoting upper shock mount too. The shock lies all but parallel to the ground.

I got a stationary down tag and it came with shocks. Factory installed. I chain the axle up from time to time and it never has damaged the shocks any.

So long as the stroke of the shock is measured and taken into consideration, it wont be a problem. You need an extended and collapsed length measurement, then order shocks accordingly.

I can try to get a picture of my trailer tomorrow and post it... We have steerable lift axles and we have shocks on the axles... Like I said I will try to get pictures if I can.

I have 20k steerable lift with no shocks.
2 years, no problems so far. stainless steel fenders still hanging in there.
I did drop pressure down to 25lbs once, noticed more bounce than usual, got nervous and raised it to 40lbs, smoothed back out.

mount it from the front hangers to the top of axle. it will be a weird looking angle but it works. and you wont have to get a long stroke shock to do it either. the thing about the lift axle is that shocks wont really make much of a difference. with the weight that you load it up with kinda inerts the shocks. and as you know you don't run with the axle down empty where shocks would come into play.
