This is what it looks like from the seat of a 1953 Pete, minus the vent, This is May 2009 enroute to Huntsville. In 53 this truck might have had a 200 or 220 cummins (naturally aspirated) with a 5x3 and low gears in back. A steering wheel that almost rubbed the wing window, and a fan on the dash for an A/C. A seat with coil springs, air wipers (when they worked) and a radiator cap that you could remove without tilting the hood!!!!

This 55 KW truck & trailer, owned by another ATHS member in San Jose, if I remember right, met us in Shamrock, TX en route to Huntsville. 62 mph tops, cummins 250, 5x4 I think. The driver, Dwayne, a master of his profession, is a legend in the vintage truck world......... stayed with us all the way..

This is a 59 or 60 Westcoaster. When I got my ClassA in 1970 I drove one like this for a few months pulling a bottom dump to the Diablo Cyn. Nuclear power plant near Avila Beach, CA. LOOOOng w/b rubber ride, 10 sp. 262 cummins. Beat me to death, but at 18, who cared? Help me out here with some of your old pics....

Closest I could find picture wise. Since I lost a lot due to a fire some years ago.
I started on a 1980 Autocar Engine was I think .. 230hp. Maybe, 290 Twin Stick
My arm was bruised to hell and back. It took me for ever to get the shifting down. This was back when having a chauffeur s license was optional. LOL. Don't get caught.Last edited: Feb 22, 2015

Hi truckdad, thanks, just love the old iron. I was a member of ATHS for many years. I had a 1949 Diamond T pickup like this for many years. Had to sell it (stupid ex-wife) and my '72 Pete in my signature pic. I ran RR trailers out of Chicago with it for a while, but again, had to sell (stupid ex-wife). Never should have sold the Pete. Had a dash very similar to yours. I also had a 1985 359 daycab, I was going to make a motorhome out of, but ran out of steam (and money) Also, my '82 Western Star. That was a good old truck. Thanks again.
