For us it is in the crapper.
Lds. being offered for 5 axle flatbed rates. No bigger stuff seems to be moving..
Even the famous let's broker our freight guys aren't posting many lds. here in the last week or so...
I'll sit before I haul 70k for 2.50 mile gross......Then having to pay permits also....

Not sure about heavy. But the legal weight oversize hasn't picked up like it usually does in the spring.

Been slow for a few years,,last few months it has gotten slower, Menlow was cut of doing RGN loads and steps,,problem now is if a truck is late or has other problems carriers and brokers are suspended for 30 days at the post or base,,
Biggest reason for the slow down is budget cuts for training,,Ft Irwin has had 50% less training for the past 4 years

absolutely, had a broker call me the other day offering a load for $5 per mile. 91000lbs. he could probably hear me laughing all the way to the dial tone!

I've been saying this since the end of last year. All freight is bad right now, I'm in steel and there are trucks sitting, I going to take the covered wagon off and run some open deck. This time last year we were busy busy, not now. The economy has defiantly cooled from last year. Speaking of heavy haul, the rates are very low for steel.

Could it be that weight restrictions are playing a role for the time being, is heavy haul always exempt, permits allowing? I ask because I do not know, no experience in heavy haul.

that is just a small part of it I think. all the cat dealers around where I live are screaming because their lots are packed with rental equipment. that is usually out workin by this time of year. election year maybe to blame? I don't know haven't seen it this slow since 2009.
