more is always better, except if it is a ticket..

I have a 24" cutter and it does the job without a problem. I think 18" might be a tad tough with the hardened bolts.

A place I used to work had a pair of the 18" cutters and they sucked....... I prefer longer ones. But you gotta make do with what you have.

Longer for more leverage..
I got mine from Sears. -
This is what I use and I get a new one every year. I cut 10-20 bolts a week easy with no problems. I've had issues with others, not this one. http://t.homedepot.com/p/H-K-Porter-24-in-General-Purpose-Bolt-Cutters-0190AC/100016694/

got mine 13 yrs ago from Tool Zone, they are hardened steel, with replaceable jaws, about 36" long, weigh probably 20 lbs, paid $115.00 for them. Will have to post a picture of them.

What do you guys use a bolt cutter for?
-
To cut security bolt seals
which are steel encased in a plastic shell.
Also some rails will feed a 4 or 6 inch threaded bolt through the door latches, put a bolt on it, then bend the bolt so you cannot unscrew the bolt, so you have to cut it off.Last edited: Sep 24, 2014
