so i quit the rails and went back to my old job. felt bad at first but when my check came 200$ short and they dont like to fix it. i felt good again. i hated the rails. its just the best owner op local job you can find. and being a local guy im going to have to learn it in the future or figure out what i want. i just wonder if going for jb hunt or schneider as a o/o will be more beneficial for me? i feel like thats why i hated the company i was at. it wasnt professional. but lots of people liked them. wonder what i should do.in the meantime im local again with my company till i save and see what i want to do. chicago local is all rails o/o wise at least from what i see. man it was just a pain and i feel like a huge quitter

What about local LTL's? There's a ton of them in Chi-town area.
I would think you could probably get a line haul run, or similar, that would still have you home each day or night.
Not sure about your particular $200 shortage, but the Dept of Labor can help in some cases.

think i know which company but i'm not in position to blurt it out as i've never worked for it so i cant say anything bad about it.

but to OP, i think you just got situated with the wrong company. With the right company, intermodal is great despite the headache.

I'm not o/o but speaking after 6 months on pumpkin rail as a company driver I will say they seem legit. I'm making a lot more money as a first year driver than I think I would be making any where else. Wisconsin loads are so #### easy to haul and because 90% of schnieders business in the state is around green bay it's practically a line haul job. Even as a regional driver I'm home nearly every night. I don't know how the loads are assigned for o/o guys but if you can pick any of em consistently you can expect between 450 and 500 miles a day. Even if you only profit 150% of what I'm being paid you still stand to make around 75 a year.
