I live in Rochelle il, there's a uprr yard here, I see O/O intermodal trucks all the time.. Do they lease onto a carrier or run their own athority? What's the rpm you O/O are averaging? I've heard it's cheap paying freight, very interested since it's so close to me...

Hi Boxxer, In the late 80's and 90's I had my truck leased to a company in Green Bay and pulled RR cans out of Chicago. I was making .92 cpm, on average, which is about $1.76 per mile now. It was all local work in ILL.,Wis. and UP of Mich. I was home almost every night. Not sure if you can do that on your own, as I remember a ton of paperwork the guy I was leased to had to do. Equipment has gotten better since I did it.( No more van trailers) There's ads all the time for companies looking for O/O's. Probably best if you had a white Volvo.:biggrin_2559:

you will also need an SCAC code to operate under to have access to the rail, they will also have different insurance requirements and are very specific on it

You can just look at the company names on the trucks coming out of the ramp in Rochelle. I am an O/O leased on to a carrier that has a Rochelle office. I do 99.98% of my work in and out of Rochelle. Only two of my loads in 2 years have been delivered to Chicago railyards. Just look for the stickers on the side. If all the trucks look the same, they are company trucks. I know this is an old post, but you can pm me for info is you like.

On top of that you must register with the UIIA and get interchange agreements with said Ramps.....

Just like in other modes of transportation....There will be a high level of competition....everyone wants intermodal work....
