I wouldn't say the Cummins is due for everything. LOL EGR cooler/turbo which leads to DOC/DPF replacement always seems to fall within warranty.
As for the 7th injector - it is a serviceable item - clean every 200,000km (sorry I'm canadian), doc/dpf is due for cleaning every 400,000km.

    do u have the esn?

also IMO a print out of the ECM is just about useless. An oil sample and good run on the dyno is worth the $$$. I would avoid the max force like the plague.

Lets see total regens , total regen fuel used . Total time regening in minutes . # partial regens. Total fuel milage #s. Total idle time (a killer on a dpf only truck). Inactive codes............. Pretty much all useless info.

P.S. Do ECM miles/ hours match dash gauges. Are the latest and greatest software updates installed.............

That info is only the tip of an iceberg... Inactive codes more than 10 hours old are nothing. I'm assuming he's buying a highway truck which is rated for that. Not a garbage truck or a crane which would all have after treatment issues due to idle time.

Too many variables to go off an ECM scan. There is no denying a dyno will give you the best info.

This is good stuff to read. I appreciate the Technicians sharing what they know.

I've been off work a few months, and, was considering buying a truck.

I see a bunch of 2012 prostars with the maxxforce 13 engines. They all have abt 70,000 mi, (a company went bankrupt).

The international dealers want $ 75,000.

After reading this thread. I think I've decided not to buy one.

    Thanks.

the fuel mileage is great, the ride is great. Maxxforce 13 is a cat bottom and top end with most of everything else being international. the jake is virtually non-existent, the engine won't pull as well as a11.1 Detroit and I've put 6000 miles on this 2010 truck and its going in to the shop again today. throwout bearing ,egr cooler. Truck rpms were down to nothing and I went up sandstone at 9-12 mph, then after 2 miles it took off and ran fine till the truck shut down and I barely got it off the road without any power steering. then an hour later it did the 10 mph thing again. seems like there is always a warning sign in the window of the speedometer. 3rd time to the shop in 6k.

Maxxforce 13 is not a Cat bottom. It is all MAN engine design from Europe. You are confusing the now non-existent Maxxforce 15 which was a Cat block, with the 13.

Now the Maxxforce has an option for a better Jacobs engine brake that is a major improvement over the OEM brake.

Haha, thanks for asking that question i have the same exact prob, lol.downshifting is dam near impossible w/out using the cluctch. Its a mess to shift up or down,no smoothness either way.Its all over the place, just when you think you have it the truck seems to morph in to a whole new truck. Then when you try to start out real slow and smooth in low gear all of the sudden the dam thing trys to take off like it has a rocket on its back, def not normal.
