aybe your starter needs a new Bendix. (The little gear that shoots out towards the flywheel to turn the engine).

Define hard. All clutches take a certain amount of beef to go in. Clutch issues is a new set of problems not really related to the starting issue unless your clutch is one of those that have to be in before your rig is going to take a start attempt.

My first thought is to check the voltmeter first prior to starting. You should have a certain amount of voltage. That is first thing.

The rest of it has been covered by the others.

It's a common issue on Cascadia and what I mean by hard is applying massive amount of force my ultimate guess is clutch switch which creates the same symptoms"clicking sound etc etc"

    Hm.

See this is where my knowledge ends at the 2001 era and progresses making a question. I wonder if the sensor that is driven by the clutch is a fixed or floating type. I hope it is a fixed one.

If you needed massive force, then something is out of whack. Most rigs Ive had usually went to the floor with nothing on the clutch as a safety measure when they went out; giving you fair warning the last few miles or shifts to find a shop.

i was having this same issue on my 07 9400i..i went through 3 starters in about 1.5 years..come to find out it is the design of the starters with the overcrank protection silinoid on top..they are junk..get yourself the old style delco remy that weighs about 50 lbs and you will never have to worry about this again.
