thanks everyone. Just had the sensors replaced. definately didn't use the same shop. A/C is working again. will be more careful about who to trust for repairs and will do research before going into a shop even if it is a dealer shop.
I hope if anyone else has this pronlem they check those sensors first. it would have saved us $1800.00.
09 prostar a/c replaced everything still not working

Just because they all say "International" out front doesn't mean they're all the same inside the shop, unfortunately. Training is expensive and not every tech is good with computers. Some dealers just don't have the right guys with the right training or experience. Some dealers see the older trucks more often than the newer stuff. So they are better for clutches or suspension work, but not so good for wiring or electronics. Sometimes it is just a matter of the foreman putting the wrong guy on it, the list goes on... Well, at least your a/c is pretty much all new now with some warranty!
radicastuff Thanks this. -
bad repair shops must be the explanation for the amount of older trucks i see that have 110 AC units mounted in the sleeper area. i have seen several that have taken a steel plate and welded it to the back of the sleeper frame, then cut a hole in the sleeper and placed a window unit inside the truck running on an inverter. gotta be a huge savings in money.

Anti idle laws due to emission regulations is why those guys have those units, can't idle your engine any more.

My truck is doing the same thing. I will be putting it in the shop today. Thanks for the info

Another problem common to the Prostar is the control head (selector on the dash) that tells the computer what you selected. Thermistors should always be checked first; never let a shop throw parts at the problem before checking/replacing. If the problem is cool but not cold air, clean or replace the cabin filters. There's one in the cowling housing and another in the bunk HVAC unit.

The lesser of two evils I guess.

I'm tempted to go park in front of the house of whoever thought of that law, and have my APU on with the exhaust pointing at the grass.

I was told by a mechanic that the AC on the Internationals have over 112 or 120 sensors on it and any one of them could make the AC not work the other thing I was working for this company they had bought some new Internationals we checked the temp the AC was putting out 68 degrees but on the KW and the Freightshaker they were blowing cold at 32 and 48 we checked all 4 of the new internationals same thing maybe it's just an international thing
