09 prostar a/c replaced everything still not working

A/C quit blowing cold. I went to a shop and they said I needed a whole new system with a list of parts. I replaced all of the following...compressor, both expansion valves, condenser, and dryer. all lines were flushed then evac and charge. the darn thing starts blowing cool for a couple of minutes then warm air. the compresser keeps kicking off. now wondering are there sensors somewhere that could be causing the problem? Is it an electrical issue? don't know what to try next.

Ok, why was everything replaced, compressor failure? The a/c is completely computer controlled. It monitors the high side pressure, evaporator outlet and inlet temperatures. The temperature sensors, (thermistors), are a usually culprit. The design has been changed more than once. If you haven't had the newest style of thermistors installed that is a good place to start. The computer will not allow the compressor to run if the temperatures are lower than 26 degrees F. If there is a failed thermistor or open circuit problem the body controller sees 0 degrees, so it thinks the evaporator is cold enough and will not allow the compressor to run. There are also body controller updates to improve a/c operation and some software problems with how the a/c runs. You need data version 137 or higher and kernal 231 or higher. Only an International dealer can do this. If you had the work done at an International dealer this should have been done. Unfortunately, the system has to be sucked down in order to replace the thermistors. Since this is computer controlled you need someone who can monitor what the body controller is seeing for temps and pressures.

Replaced everything because an international shop said this was the problem. The shop we went into seemed to act as if we were bothering them and the a/c tech was going home soon. He only opened the hood, started the truck and said it all needed replaced. Someone else did the work. We will go to another shop we trust in Iowa but right now in California. Thanks for the info. at least i have an idea of what to ask about.

What Heavy said, computer needs to be updated and a sensor is need of replacement.

For a few bucks more you can also have the little connectors replaced for the thermistors too. The wires and terminals are very small. Heat and vibration take their toll and weaken them. Intermittent loose connections here can also cause the same problem.

i have a 10 prostar and i have the same problem. im in memphis right now in a hotel while my truck is getting worked on.

I have an '08 Prostar and had numerous issues with my A/C. Eventually they found the inlets and outlets of the thermistors were plugged. They found this during a compression/flow test and with dye.

Just went through the same thing on my 2011 ProStar. Crappy dealer took 8 days to get the AC working.
It was a sensor issue but they charged to replace the whole AC system,compressor and all.
Funny thing is i looked under the hood and it is a used compressor that does not even bolt up the same.
That dealer will NEVER see my truck again!
