I was tired of the wimpy little air horn under the truck so i bought a Grover 24 inch standard truck horn.
Hooked it up and it barely makes a sound off the stock air connection.
Tested it on the bench at 100 psi and it works fine.

Anyone know where the solenoid is on this truck and can it be upgraded to a higher pressure?
If not i have a nice chrome horn that sounds like a duck!

LOL! Good description! The solenoid pack is tucked up in the frame rail near the back of the transmission. There is only one solenoid available that I know of so as far as I know you can't upgrade the solenoid. What you could do for more volume is use the air line to signal a relay valve to supply more air to your bigger horn. Just a regular brake relay valve would work. Find a vacant supply port off one of the tanks to feed the valve, delivery port to your horn. The only thing there is no "Vent" or exhaust on those solenoids. Once you hit the button the solenoid will charge the line, now the air has no place to go so you will have to rig up something so the line will vent itself. Good question!

Thanks Heavyd, I wonder what psi the stock line supplies.
Does the Lone Star use the same small horn?

Pretty sure it does. You have full system pressure supplied to the solenoid pack. The ports inside the solenoid pack aren't even 1/4", so you won't get a lot of volume. You could also try a separate electric solenoid, something bigger than a fan clutch solenoid like a lift axle suspension solenoid or something. The wire that actually powers the air horn solenoid from the body controller is N59B. The body controller just sends out 12v. Still have to be careful though because the body controller will also sense the current amount. If you used a different solenoid with a different amount of coil resistance the body controller may sense that and throw a code for over or under current output. Fun eh?

When the kids do the fist pump for the airhorn I pretend I didn't see them! Saw a Prostar with one of the train horns rigged on back of the sleeper. Looked dorky but I imagine it worked.

Most guys are just putting separate lever valves or whatever next to the seat or something like that.

Nothing simple on these trucks! Geeze!
I got the horn for 22 bucks on Ebay. Sounds like it may get put on the shelf in my shop and the stock horn put back on...bummer.

Good trucks, but they could use some improvement. Says in your sig you got the last of the Cummins powered. Try having the computer on a Maxxforce go out, one hour to figure it out and another half hour to fix.
