My manual regen wouldn't work. I found out the problem was my clutch pedal wasn't springing back all the way, so I guess the ECM thought the clutch was partially depressed. I lifted the clutch pedal with my foot, and it came toward me about an inch. Then I tried the manual regen (brakes must be set), and it worked!

Time to give those linkage joints a spray of penetrating oil!

I have just bought a used 2011 western star and I have never had a truck with a regen system on it and there is no book in the glove box iwas just wondering what if any thing do I need to do or does it just do it while it going down the road, and if it does what is the button that is on my dash for.the visor says to regenerate asap when the light flashes but I have been driving it for a week and if it has regenerated I don't know about it cause the light hasn't flashed at all

Most of the time the system will regen automatically while you are driving and there is nothing you need to do. The switches are there to start a parked regen that is needed sometimes if the truck cannot complete one while driving. There are certain operational situations where the system cannot do a full regen while driving if you are in stop and go city driving or short hop runs. Once the system has detected that it needs a parked regen the waring light will come on as an indication to you to pull over soon and start one. There are basically three levels of warnings. Level 1 is just a solid DPF light, level 2 is a flashing light and level 3 is a flashing light, check engine light and usually a warning beeper. Some say to continue driving even though you have only a level 1, but anytime you get any level warning you should pull over to do a parked regen. The system will not do a parked regen if it senses it doesn't need it. Once you have a light on, to start a parked regen make sure the brakes are applied, cruise turned off and engine warmed up, just hit the button. The engine will increase in rpm during the regen and once the system is up to full temp the high temperature exhaust light will also come on as an indication that the exhaust is hotter than normal. The high exhaust temp light is not a fault light, it is just an indication to keep the exhaust away from anything that can easily catch fire. Regens last about 25-40 mins. Once it is done the engine will return to idle. At that time you are ok to drive it, or if you are done for the day, let it run until the high temp light goes out, then you can safely shut off the engine.

The triangle is also the engine warning light. It has an active code that something is wrong and possibly preventing a regen from starting. You should get it looked at.
