This is just a general question for the other International Techs out there about rebuilding Maxxforce 13s. We have had a couple now that had to be rebuilt and we were wondering if anyone here has had to rebuild one yet. What I want to know is, does anyone remove the complete engine from chassis to rebuild it, or do you fight your way through it in frame? We all know how ridiculous these are to work on and doing a rebuild inframe is down right disgusting! So far the extra time spent dealing with all the crap around the engine is about the same as actually removing the engine. Our management doesn't want us pulling engines to rebuild them, but they also still think a 40 hour rebuild quote is fair too. Just looking for a better way and maybe save some sanity!
    Thanks!

We've done more then our fair share. We do them in chassis. On the 07 emission we can get away with out pulling the r/s apart leaving the manifold still attached to the head. I think a few ppl in our shop have done it on the 2010. We also leave the whole valve train, injectors and rail and fuel lines intact on the head with the exception of the jakes. We built a stand to set the head that's elevated to set the head on. We do it going back together to. 40 is what were quoting also

    Heavyd Thanks this.

So far none have been rebuilt for regular reasons, it is all because they were using oil or whatever. We have replaced entire engines numerous times. So getting the engine out isn't a big deal either. Oh well, one step at a time.

Unexpected fueling from faulty injectors, turbo passing oil, or simply running down hill too fast with it in gear and over speeding the engine.

I had one that tried to run that high when it was cold enough. Unsafe pos to drive until the engine was warmed up.

They are programmed to run wide open when cold to warm up asap. Really stupid engineering. Nothing like red-lining your engine with everything cold and oil thick as taffy.
