I have a 2007 International 9200i with a caterpillar engine. I did the odometer calculation of the mpg and its currently averaging around 3.9. Is this normal? I am pulling an oil tanker pulling 7700 gallons per load on average. I did the oil, fuel, and air filter changes often. It's currently at 650k miles.
Is this MPG normal? How can I increase mpg?

What's usually normal mpg for these trucks? I'm pulling two loads (7700gallon loads) a day and refueling 200 gallons every other day.

is it governed? do you stand on the pedal to go as fast as it will go all the time over any terrain until you get to the destination? if yes, then probably.

does mileage of the truck 650k decreases its mpg? Freightshaker, your truck sound brand new at 45k.

If your making a cat tach over 1500 your burning uneccisaru fuel. I've drove them when they were mechanicals to the new ones, cat is low RPMS even for a diesel. Also the worst thing you can do for a cat is cowboy it, they like slow smooth shifts. Standing on it to get somewhere is a waste with a cat. I don't know what your platform weight is but that could have something to do with it. Also what kinda terrain.
I've got a 425 mechanical cat with 2 million on it so 650k isn't a lot either. -
