I have a 2007 international 9200i 650k miles with caterpillar engine. Transmission problems probably evident. It just works on 9th gear. Any thoughts?

If you can only get it into 9th, it is likely time for a reman transmission.

Remanufactured tranny? How much including labor will this cost? This sounds pretty bad.

Its a reg transmission. Other questions would be how long is it out on commission and where to get new tranny?

Sorry. One of my policies here is to never give repair quote times because it aways seems to open a can of worms and create a stink.

Ok fair enough. So looks like ill be needing a tranny. Which is better new or used. And how can this be prevented. I take it too PM service every month since i use this truck 24/7.

I would go with a reman. Most shops deal with reputable regional rebuilders. It should come with some kind of a warranty, normally one year. If you have an Eaton trans, I would say the failure is due to abuse. No offense, I'm not saying you damaged it. Eatons are pretty reliable, tough to hurt. The only way to prevent trans failures is to use a proper synthetic lube 50w, do not exceed the torque rating and use professional driving techniques.

I'll have to check tomorrow for an accurate price, but I think they are about the 5-6K range. New ones are $15-17K!!! I'm from Canada, so prices are always different than that of the US.
