My 2014 and several of our 13's kept derating due to the check engine lights coming on. The 3 common issues were:

    Bad ground off battery
    Pin on ECM plug
Loose or degraded connections at fuse box

International hard wired ( per the factory ) the wires in question around the problems. This is their solution.

In my case on the 14 the wait to start light ( pigtail ) shorted out and tripped breaker. Breaker also powers regen system. Intl. hard wired regen power around breaker.

    Good luck

Wiring still leads the main cause of most problems. We find very often the wiring is too light and tied too tightly with too many zip ties that lead to broken connectors and shorted wiring as you mentioned. I would like to see harness runner channels build into the design of the cab bodies, and engines and chassis to prevent wiring from chaffing and shorting out. Plus, when you have 12 inches of distance between two electrical components, it would be nice if they made the harness longer than 11 and 7/8 of an inch!!!

I've seen a Pete built at Denton...they have a square jig with pegs and pictures on it. The hand unspools the wire and lays it on the jig around the pegs. He zip ties it where it's noted and lifts the harness off when complete and starts another.

That is just one part of the process. Then it gets installed into the chassis and zip tied some more. Then another harness, or air lines get laid over that and zip tied again! Another problem area is right at the connector itself. There isn't enough slack of the outer wires of the connector body and they get pulled when the harness is taped and loomed around the center wires.
