I am still pretty new to the industry and learning the ins and out of maitenance. I have a 14 prostar and the newest issue is the a/c not working at idle. When running it will work just fine. At idle the temp gets up to about 185 and if you rev it you won't get the noise that the fan is moving the air it should be. If you get going down the road the fan kicks in and the temp drops but the a/c will still blow hot. You stop and restart the engine and take off it will work just fine. It doesnt doesn't matter what the outside temp is it will still idle hot with no a/c. This is a newer problem since I've sat in 90 degree heat in laredo before and the temp never broke 170 and it blew cold. Last night it was 70 yet the water temp was still 185. I've xhecked the coolant and a/c refrigerant and both are at normal levels and the a/c compressor will cycle on and then right off at idle. I think it may be in the clutch relay or some sensor I've never heard of. Any help here is appreciated

It sounds like a cooling system problem to me. These modern trucks will shut down the AC system if the engine gets so hot to remove the load on the engine. It could be as simple as a temperature switch, condenser fan switch or something related with the fan not kicking on properly. 185* is normal for the thermostat. The fan should be kicking on somewhere between 185-195*. Check your belt tension to make sure it's right. The long stretch should have about 1/2" deflection in both directions. Other than that the truck is under warranty. Enjoy the luxury of the dealership. :)

I figured it was something in the cooling system. Thank god I'm going home soon. Just gonna drop it at the dealer

You need to set the cruise control and have the engine run at about 8-900 rpms. Pro Stars don't like to idle for long periods and causes problems with cooling and the ac

The a/c should be working fine at idle. Something is wrong. The ac is all computer controlled. Take it to the dealer have it looked at. It might be still under warranty since it is a 14.

I know it's not the rpm. Ive idled in much hotter and had it work @ 500 rpm. It is definitely going to the dealer this week when I get home

At this point I think I've narrowed It down to the fan. Let the truck sit while off after driving and the fan came right on and the ac worked fine. Fan stopped and ac quit.

If anybody is still interested the verdict came in. #### thing was down for over a week. Ended up putting a new compressor and condensor on. You ask me that wasn't necessary. But the big one that we all suspected was bad was bad. The fan drive. It now blows cold enough at idle that I can hang meat in here.
