Hi all! I'm having a issue with my A/C on a 2013 Prostar ( coolant & oil is full)

where it will only cool when the fan kicks on , when the temp reads under 170f there is no issue , but once it gets above ...the A/C temp will not say at the normal 45-50F it usually puts out

I'm only idling at 600 RPM and I am not able to "bump" the idle up using the cruise buttons
if I hold the petal at 1200 or so I can hear the fan kick on & then see the temp drop from 60-70 f to 45-40F

any ideas ? Is there a relay under the passenger dash for idle/ cruise ( cruise does work on highway speeds)

the truck is probably programmed and you may be out of luck.

look online for a brake pedal lock. or steering wheel holder. don't remember the name but it's a automotive tool. you can put stick under the steering wheel. and adjust it to push the gas pedal down.

it's basically used to lock the steering wheel to the brake pedal. holds the steering wheel in position while holding the brakes down. used when doing alignments on cars.

freightliner programming. is to have the yellow valve out. cruise switch on. hit the plus button and idle jumps to 800. only way to make the truck idle. and it's probably programmed that way.

Yeah sane here with some other companies pro stars , but mines never bump idled , had the truck for 200k miles never had an issue with the A/C cooling @ 600 rpm , but other posts on here say you need to idle @ 1000 to keep it cool

Should be easy enough, Swift has over 3,000 of them.

Hey Paul, Lemee know if you can't get that thing running right. I've gotta guy at an INT shop I can get in contact with, he'll get you sorted out. Been meaning to buy him a beer, anyhow.

Got it rigged up with a tread depth gadge right now ....

Better solution would be great !

    No ... I can idle ALL I want !

problem is the engine fan is not kicking on ...thus the A/C runs warm

if I hold the RPM's to 1000-1200 the fan will run then it gets cold

It could also be a low charge and since the compressor is running faster at a 1000 vs idle the pressure is quicker to build up for better expansion valve operation and therefore colder temps. If the condenser does need increased air flow it may be simply dirty or partially plugged.

I suspect the engine control module has some flags. ie the idle restiction which does not allow you to set high idle speed is in need of a tune-up. The only other is the yellow brake release value could be de-activating the high-idle if the circut is on ( pushed in). BTW setting the brakes is the last thing we do when parking so that logic seams it would be a faultly switch, try pushing and pulling the brake release several times and see if it is an intermitten problem. sometimes cycling the key (with out turning to start) checks all the sensors and resets ECM faults. That procedure is in the owners manual. Turn the key and wait 5 sec, listen to the valve checks and fuel pump start before turning to start...the ECU is setting operational configurations.

When all else fails, read the manual and consult the nearest dealer.
