I have 30 years wrenching on the IH product at a IH dealer. Navistar and every IH dealer knew Advance EGR would not work before the first unit was ever sold. Why was it not stopped??? No person or Diesel engine can eat its own waste and live.

My friend works at Hirschbach, he used to drive a 2012, had a breakdown at 200k miles. Replaced it with cascadia. Later, 2014 with scr maxxforce. Had problems with the ecm. Now drives a 2015 prostar with isx15 450 hp. Pulls well and better mpg than maxxforce.

When the Maxxforce engines first came out and started to experience problems right away we knew they were not going to be good. Even though we aren't engineers we knew their design was flawed and would not work. We had nothing good to say. Shortly afterwards management had a meeting with us saying if we didn't like International products we were free to resign our jobs at any time and go work for someone else!!!! They threatened us with firing us if we continued to bad mouth those engines! Seriously!

The reason it was not stopped in it's tracks, regarding "advanced EGR" thing, is that the, then, president of Navistar was so set on going that direction, that there were threats against other execs if they didn't march in lock step with the president. The stories of this behind the scenes arm twisting crop up now and then. But he is out now, and more reasonable minds are in play. The share holders finally put leverage to bear and ran that yahoo off. Too bad so many took the hit for his incompetence.

The couple of drivers I have had chats with regarding the new Maxxforce with SCR say it is a totally different animal compared to previous Maxxforce engines they operated. They really like it. Now we just have to wait and see how various parts of it hold up for the long run. I have been told that EGR got dialed back 50-75% now that they are using SCR. That should go a long way to helping things. And with newer Navistar management at the helm, maybe the folks in R&D will be able to more closely address issues regarding the newer engines. I don't own one, and have no immediate plans to do so, but I hate to see anyone go down the chutes. I like competition and having a broad range of engine selections. In theory, minus the emissions stuff, the engine seems well designed. Maybe it can really start showing it's stuff and be a serious engine.

Yes, the actual engine and high pressure common rail injection is actually very good. Most newer common rail Cummins ISXs needed new liners because they thousands and thousands where made slightly out of round and so the rings do not seal. Just goes to show everyone has issues from time to time. The EGR is actually cut back 90-95%! The egr cooler has also been redesigned to help premature failures of the last series. The entire SCR system on Internationals is 100% Cummins. Yes, the entire upper management at INT'L has been overhauled so we all have our fingers crossed now.

Yes I also have my fingers crossed too, that the new upper management are not ball less brown nosers playing follow the leader. The one of many reasons Ustain and advanced EGR wasn't stopped. I guess waiting for the results of the class actions will be playing on the minds of management for a while too.

Natural gas has been pushed back, their cab-over has been pushed back, Maxxforce 7 is done, (to be replaced with some kind of GM Duramax?), Maxxforce 15 done a while ago, Maxxforce 11 done too. I hope they learnt their lesson!

I think more referring about duramax 6.6 that will replace maxxforce 7. I think they will replace it with Powerstroke 6.7. Internationals used to built powerstroke engines before 2000.

They finally replaced my International Prostar with that MAX-FORCE engine I had commented on months ago here... I now have a 2014 International ProStar with a Cummins engine...no problems, and I have a 13 speed vs my old 10 speed tranny...I been driving it for quite a few miles now with many loads...what a difference, I love it..I never took any issue with the Prostar I like the roominess in the Prostar just hated that MAX-FORCE motor that died every few days at the end(oh by the way the factory engineers didnt even know what the problem was at the end..lol).even the Cummins motor purrs nicer in my opinion....thank God that Maxforce for me is gone, gone, gone!!
